The tour

From the Lower Town the funicular takes a few minutes to reach Città Alta, the medieval town enclosed by the Venetian Walls. From Piazza Mercato delle Scarpe you follow Via Gombito and the Corsarola to Piazza Vecchia, with the Palazzo della Ragione and the Civic Tower.

Behind the square stand the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, with its baroque interior, and the Colleoni Chapel, a Lombard Renaissance masterpiece. From the Rocca and the walk along the walls you look out over the whole plain. Lunch at leisure in Città Alta; in the afternoon, if you like, time for shopping in the Lower Town.
