The tour

The drive crosses the Gotthard and reaches Lucerne in the late morning. You start at the Chapel Bridge, the 14th-century wooden bridge with its Water Tower, then continue into the Old Town, among squares with painted façades and the Lion Monument carved into the rock.

When it gets dark the city switches on its Christmas lights above the Reuss. You wander through the markets, with crafts and mulled wine, and finish on the lakefront in front of the Hofkirche. Your chauffeur waits for you at the end of the evening.

Good to know

You cross the Swiss border: every passenger needs a valid travel document.
Lucerne is cold in December, especially in the evening: dress in layers.
Switzerland uses Swiss francs; some market stalls take cash only.
