The tour

In Alba you walk through the medieval centre, among the towers and the specialty food shops. On October and November weekends the town hosts the International White Truffle Fair. Then you head into the woods with a trifolau, a local truffle hunter, and his dog, to see how truffles are found.

In the afternoon you drive up into the Barolo hills, with the viewpoint at La Morra and a winery tasting. The last stop is the castle of Grinzane Cavour, a UNESCO site surrounded by vineyards. Lunch at leisure, with truffle shaved at the table if you wish.

Good to know

The Alba White Truffle Fair runs on weekends from October to early December. After the fair the tour runs until January.
For the hunt in the woods, wear closed shoes that can handle mud.
